Loss of soil stability occurs as a result of many human activities such as removal of trees and bushes, soil bevelling in construction works, adding of load on slopes or unfavourable natural phenomena like earthquakes, erosion, underground water flows, temperature oscillations and freezing. Such events may cause great material damage and endanger human lives. Therefore we need to evaluate and analyse the dangers of landslide and take the necessary safety and protection measures. The attempt to minimize the disturbance of natural balance due to human activities resulted in the introduction of environmental requirements. In the modern European engineering practice these requirements are translated into standardized norms. In the modern road construction complying with these standards artificial slopes represent a special issue. The execution of such slopes has a significant impact on the integration of such facilities into the environment. |
